Choghadiya (from chau, four, and ghadi, a unit of about 24 minutes) is one of the simplest and most popular methods in Vedic timekeeping for finding an auspicious moment. Daylight, from sunrise to sunset, is divided into eight equal parts; the night, from sunset to the next sunrise, into eight more. Each of these sixteen periods carries a name and a nature.
Each period is governed by a planet and classed by its quality. Amrit, Shubh and Labh are auspicious; Char is neutral and good for travel; while Udveg, Kaal and Rog are best avoided for new undertakings.
For weddings, griha pravesh and important pujas, a complete muhurat also weighs the tithi, nakshatra, yoga and your personal horoscope. Pandit Ramkishan Joshi will determine the most auspicious time for your ceremony with full Vedic care.
Choghadiya is a Vedic system that divides each day and night into eight muhurats of roughly 1.5 hours each. Every period is classed as auspicious (Amrit, Shubh, Labh), neutral (Char) or inauspicious (Udveg, Kaal, Rog), helping you choose when to begin important work.
Amrit is considered the most auspicious, followed by Shubh and Labh. Char is neutral and good for travel. For ceremonies and major decisions, prefer Amrit, Shubh or Labh and avoid Udveg, Kaal and Rog.
Choghadiya is calculated from local sunrise and sunset, which vary by city and date. Small differences between sources usually come from the exact coordinates and the sunrise model used. This tool computes sunrise/sunset for the city you select, in IST.
